Braces

My oldest just had an evaluation for braces. She is going to get them next month. She will probably wear them about 2 years. And the funny part is, she is so excited. I made her appointment for next month after school is finished. She is actually sad that her friends won't get to see them until after the summer break is over. She is contemplating her color choices right now. I will have to post pictures after the process is over. Wish us luck in our new adventure!

I did not have braces. Do you think I should tell her about how it hurts or just let her figure it out?

Oh, good question. If it were my child, I would warn her that there's some discomfort. I had braces MANY years ago, maybe they aren't as bad now?? For me though, they hurt pretty bad for a while....

I was excited too, all my friends had braces. I would let her know to expect some discomfort. The good news is that it doesn't really hurt getting them on. I can remember thinking it wasn't that bad then waking up in the middle of the night, and oh it hurt. Make sure you give her some type of pain reliever after getting them on even if she doesn't feel like she needs it, even if it is Advil.

Thanks! I will talk to her and find some pain reliever. Good advice.

I think I took Tylenol before I had them put on too. Took it for another day or so and it seemed ok. I loved my braces at first...especially when you could get colored rubber bands to match your clothes. Those were the days... LOL!

I don't remembering mine hurting when I got them (although I ended up in hospital that night-that is another story). But, I do remember them being uncomfortable when they would tighten them. I would always take pain relievers when I got them tightened. I say warn her a bit!

It has been many moons ago for me..LOL...BUT I do remember My Dr. stressing to us to be careful about what we eat! I was an adult, & the rest of the patients were "young".I remember him fussing about their teeth...he knew they had not done right in the eating dept. Back then that was very important...might be different now (??) and it was painful at times, but not be as bad now!
I wish her the best on this venture...she will be glad!
